Two chamber of commerce weather days adorned the participants of the 2017 Head Professional Championship on Hilton Head Island. This two-day event took place in conjunction with the one-day RBC Heritage qualifier, for a total of two PGA Tour event invitations on the line for CPGA professionals. Evolve Golf was fortunate to be able to host our Total Driving Challenge on the 10th Hole at Wexford Plantation, a 415 yard par 4. Located next to the club’s marina and the overlooking the saltwater creek headed to the ocean, the 10th tee provided a beautiful backdrop for a difficult tee shot. A large fairway bunker up the right side and a combination of out of bounds and hazard up the left side forced players to hit a long accurate tee ball to have a chance at birdie.
With a slight helping breeze coming off the harbor, the Carolinas PGA professional posted some impressive drives. For the first time in Total Distance Challenge history we had a first place tie. Ryan Tyndall’s drive of 307 yards just 3 yards off of center tied with the distance and accuracy rank of Kris Cappuzzo’s drive of 288 yards just 1 yard off. Third place went to Luke Lovell, with a 291 yard drive 2 yards off centerline.
Evolve Golf would like to thank Scott Hunter, PGA and his entire staff for hosting the Head Professional Championship again this year. We are also appreciative of the entire Carolina’s PGA Staff and the hard work they put in to make these section majors possible. Look forward to seeing everyone again at the Pro-Assistant in July!
