Evolve Golf’s Epoch Performance Tee Dominates Competition in Two More Independent Lab Tests

Patented, Tour-Proven Design Shown to Improve
Distance and Accuracy

Sunset Beach, NC October 19, 2010 – Evolve Golf, Inc.

News Summary

  • Evolve Golf confirms recent independent testing conducted at both GolfTest USA and Golf Laboratories showed the company’s patented, Tour-proven Epoch performance tee provides significantly greater total distance and accuracy than competing products.
  • Featuring a robot and players with a wide variety of handicaps and swing speeds, these are the latest in a series of tests to support the distinct advantages golfers of all abilities can gain by using the Epoch.
  • Using a launch monitor, GolfTest USA compared the Epoch to a three-post composite tee, an offset composite tee and a traditional wooden tee. According to the data acquired from 20 male and female golfers hitting multiple shots with each tee, the Epoch proved on average to be:

11.6 yards longer and 1.6 yards more accurate than the three-post composite tee

9.0 yards longer and 4.7 yards more accurate than the traditional wooden tee

7.3 yards longer and 2.2 yards more accurate than the offset composite tee

  • Those results were mirrored by Golf Laboratories, which conducted its tests at a swing speed of 95 mph using a robot and launch monitor in a controlled test environment. Under these conditions, the Epoch was shown to be:

1.8 yards longer and 2.0 yards more accurate than the three-post composite tee

5.8 yards longer and 2.7 yards more accurate than the traditional wooden tee

3.4 yards longer and 3.0 yards more accurate than the offset composite tee

  • Since its 2004 debut, the Epoch has been part of 127 major Tour wins, including 48 PGA Tour victories. Used weekly by scores of PGA Tour players it is the only performance tee with radius posts that span the width of a golf ball dimple. This unique feature creates the lowest coefficient of friction of any tee, eliminating deflection at impact and increasing ball speed and control.
  • Like all Evolve Golf products and packaging, the Epoch is environmentally friendly. Made from recycled materials, the design is significantly more durable than its wooden counterparts and not harmful to mower blades.

“The test results go hand-in-hand with the fact that so many of the world’s best players trust the Epoch’s performance advantages to help them win on Tour,” says BJ Maloy, Founder and CEO of Evolve Golf. “When the variability of each golfer’s swing is evaluated, golf tee design flaws become blatantly evident. Whether it’s a test featuring a robot in controlled conditions or average men and women swinging away, our tees are quite literally outpacing the competition.”

  • Evolve Golf confirms that its Epoch performance tee finished first in GolfTest USA’s 2009 “Comprehensive Golf Tee Test”, besting 24 competing designs from every other leading manufacturer.
  • Determined by a panel of 60 testers rating each tee in 10 categories, the test examined performance, appearance, ease of use, durability and eco-friendly composition. As clearly shown by the results (viewable here), respondents definitively preferred the Epoch tee based on its combination of superior performance and durability in an appealing yet environmentally-friendly design.
  • Since its 2004 debut, the Epoch has been part of 123 major Tour wins, including 46 PGA Tour victories, and is the only performance tee with radius posts that span the width of a golf ball dimple. This unique feature creates the lowest coefficient of friction of any tee, eliminating deflection at impact and increasing ball speed and control. It has been scientifically proven via a series of rigorous independent robotic tests combined with extensive player testing to provide improvements of up to 12 yards distance and 9 yards accuracy.

Quotes

“This independent test plainly illustrates that the advantages of using the Epoch are obvious to the vast majority,” says BJ Maloy, Founder and CEO of Evolve Golf. “The rapid adoption of our tees on the PGA Tour is well documented. Now this collection of highly objective testers has confirmed beyond any doubt that the average golfer also clearly prefers the Epoch over every other leading brand.”

“What really resonated with our panel was that the Epoch not only delivered on its performance promises, claiming to offer the lowest coefficient of friction, but was also a favorite in the ease of use categories,” says Wayne Williams, Testing Director of GolfTest USA. “The Epoch recorded high scores across the board, offering the best performance, durability, and overall experience for our testers.”

Evolve Golf’s Sustainable Golf Tees Are Mower Friendly

Mower Tests Prove Evolve’s Tees Are Better for Golf Courses

News Summary

• Evolve Golf’s sustainable golf tees are made entirely from recycled and renewable materials.
• Evolve Golf’s sustainable golf tees last longer than wood tees and do not harm mowers.
• Mower tests were conducted at Diamond Creek in Banner Elk, NC.
• A static test compared the shear force required to cut through golf tees.  Equal quantities, lengths, and shaft diameters of wood tees and Evolve Golf’s sustainable tees were compared.  A torque wrench was fitted to a sharpened and calibrated triplex reel. The golf tees were cut through at different locations on the blades and the shear force was recorded each time.
• 30% more force is required to cut through a wood tee compared to Evolve Golf’s sustainable golf tees.
• A dynamic test compared the impact of mowing over golf tee litter. Equal quantities, lengths, and shaft diameters of wood tees and Evolve Golf’s sustainable tees were evenly disbursed in front of the left and right reels of a sharpened and calibrated triplex mower.  Repeated passes (6) were made to clear the area of tee litter.  The bed knives were inspected at the conclusion of the test, neither side deviated from the initial calibration.
• Evolve Golf’s sustainable golf tees will not impact the mower reels during mowing operations.

Quotes

Attributed to: John Lavelle, Superintendent, Diamond Creek

“The switch to long tees increased the amount of tee litter on the course. Since switching over to Evolve’s tees there’s been a noticeable reduction in tee litter.  It’s rare that we see a broken tee anymore, if we do it’s a wood tee.”

“This is a traditional golf tee that performs better, lasts longer, costs the same, and saves trees.  We shouldn’t look back twenty years from now and say we could have done this sooner. I don’t know why you wouldn’t switch.”

How Many Wood Tees Do You Break?

At Evolve we have tested the durability of thousands of golf tees.  We’ve come to the obvious conclusion that wood tees break a lot.   But there is more to it, the type of wood, coating of the tee, size of the tee, the depth of the tee in the ground, angle of attack, swing speed, and club selection all play a part in the ultimate demise of the wooden tee.

According to a test conducted by Golf Magazine golfers use an average of 6.75 wood tees during an 18-hole round of golf.  The test results ran aside the “Tee it high or low?” cover story in Golf Magazine’s June 2006 print issue.
