The Evolve team packed up and headed out west to Mission Hills Country Club for the 2016 Southern California PGA Pro-Assistant Championship. The mountainous terrain and dry desert heat played no factor in the field’s performance. Jim Robinson and his staff at Mission Hills Country Club had the course in prime condition. With temperatures fluctuating from the upper 90’s to the low 100’s both days, players made sure to grab a few more water bottles before heading out to their assigned holes. The Evolve team set-up shop on the 9th hole of the Pete Dye Challenge Course. The players were facing a risk reward 538-yard Par 5 with water along the left and a fairway bunker surrounded by thick rough guarding the right side. Players found that taking it over the bunker on the right, was the safe bet and better angle for reaching the green in two.
Michael Diette, from Palos Verdes Golf Club captured the 3rd place spot with a drive of 305 yards and just 2 yards off the center line. Evan Biundo, from Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club took second place with an impressive drive of 301 yards and right on the center line. Chris Gilley, from La Quinta Country Club must’ve known he was going to bring home the top spot, since he was jumping up in down in the fairway as he walked up to his 305 yard drive sitting right on the center line.
Evolve Golf would like to thank the Southern California PGA section staff for running a remarkable event and making sure all participants and sponsors were taken care of.
